What I learned from this that had our site is there’s like one side of the site, there’s this highway, beautiful highway, and then in the back, there’s like this incredible soundscape of like birds and water and like food and weather.
And that makes me think that like, we might want to sort of like emphasize that side and kind of muffle the highway.
Like a really nice open site.
Yeah.
And maybe like thicker in the front, thinner in the back or something like that.
Or maybe a new entirely new I have like seen before.
And at the same time, like, it’s so obvious, but what I love about it is I feel like we’re, it feels like we’re using like, you know, like, an hour ago we were talking about putting curtains on a window, and now we’re like here listening to geese and like that’s amazing.
And they’re like two totally different like scales of like, but they’re both like important for like architects.
There’s the body and then like the whole like landscape that you’re part of.
And like, I never feel like I love doing this project because I think it’s so really fun.
Me too.
I don’t know, to be honest, like, I’ve been in this before with the studio and been like, this is great, can we go home?
Yeah.
I’ve been really enjoying it.
Yeah.
The entire site is entirely built in a renovation system, or a built in renovation system.
The site is, it was nice, but I don’t think you did learn a single thing.
Yeah, you sort of went to the site.
Yeah, I was like, wow.
I love that like, yeah, it’s like also, I’m just so curious, like we’re, we’re seeing the site in this really specific moment, but I’m like, what, and it feels like it just opened up in some ways, like really readily.
But at the same time, I’m like, what?
Wow.
Have you ever been to this part of, have you ever walked on this path before?
No, it’s the first time.
It’s so nice.
I know, it’s like, it’s kind of amazing that the community around here has this.
You know what’s so funny is, there’s the Rio Grande, that’s like this great little outlet.
And at first, like, isn’t that kind of like enticing?
You know?
Wow, it’s a giant, massive, famous river.
Uh huh.
It’s going right through the city again.
Wow.
Beautiful, like an amenity.
Uh huh.
Well, there’s no water in the Rio Grande.
Oh.
There’s no water?
No water.
I thought it was like, a river.
No, it’s completely dry.
It’s an empty canal.
It was an artificial river, right?
Someone, someone like dug it.
I didn’t know that.
Like the Rio Grande?
Yeah.
Or the…
Oh, maybe it wasn’t.
I feel like it was like, part of like the lore of like Paul Bunyan or something like that.
Oh.
Because they like dug the Rio Grande.
But that might be fake.
Maybe it wasn’t dug.
Ooh.
You want to go up here?
Mm-hmm.
We’ll leave them to their business.
They are not moving.
They are like, yeah, we’re in charge actually of this area.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um.
No, we made it past.
But you know what’s really mean is swans.
Really?
Swans are the meanest, yeah.
I didn’t know that.
Yeah, I remember like at a camp I worked at, they had a swan.
And it like, yeah, it was mean.
You could not go near it.
It like killed ducks.
One time, I was thinking of this weird one where I was like five or six.
And you had to feed the ducks.
Uh-huh.
And then a swan like literally bit into his stomach.
Whoa.
Oh, a goose?
Wow.
So forcefully.
Wow.
And he like bled.
Wow.
Which brother was this?
Um, Rex.
This was Rex.
I feel like Rex is the only one that I really know that much about.
I feel like he gets a lot of mentions.
Ah.
Cool.
We’re back to the road.
Oh, they just crossed it.
Yeah, of course.
I think he’s checking out the cabinet.
Hi.
Hi.
Hi.
Yeah.
30 minutes.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Yeah.
Oh yeah, like I could be like, oh, it’s like all this stuff going on in, I don’t know, like Western Mass.
Like it’s not that far.
Like I could be there in an hour or two.
And also it makes the death toll really crazy.
Oh, it’s not like, it’s not like 70,000 people from the US died.
It’s like 70,000 people from New Jersey died.
Yeah.
I think it’s actually like 10% of the population, but only because it’s so densely populated.
Yeah, I’m glad we have the Board of Peace now.
What do you think Christy Noem could do more damage?
Um, I think, honestly, I think Christy Noem would, oh, sorry, would be better as in charge of Israel than ICE.
Better the Christy Noem you know.
If we have Benjamin Netanyahu out of Israel and Christy Noem is in charge, is it like a freaky Friday?
Like is Netanyahu then in charge of immigration?
Huh.
So this is part of the braille trail?
I don’t think so.
What’s the thing?
It looks just like…
A little memorial.
Oh.
Okay, well.
I don’t feel any braille.
Oh, maybe there’s some braille.
No, there’s something, but I don’t think it’s braille.
No, it’s just letters.
I see two canoes.
Uh-huh.
And there’s benches behind us.
Maybe it’s a little more lively in the summer.
You can’t just put two canoes in.
Maybe that’s our project now.
Rehabilitating the riverfront braille trail into a big garden.
It’s not really something.
You can’t just put two canoes.
The trail over there says waterfront braille trail, but I think this is part of it.
We’re on it.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Well, where’s the braille?
Paul, you’re asking for too much.
The braille trail would have braille?
I’m demanding that…
You want too much.
You want…
He doth protest too much.
You think so?
What is this?
A rock?
Yeah, it’s like a bench.
Oh, it’s snowing.
That’s why it’s like that.
It’s a trick of the old eye.
I know, it looked like kind of a lumpy rock.
I was like, that’s crazy.
Well…
Screw the braille trail.
I feel like this is how disability things always go.
It’s like, you go to the place and it’s like, wow, this is amazing for disabled people.
Just the whole scene and everything.
And then you go to the disability thing and you’re like, that’s it?
They put a bench here?
And then it’s being promoted by the entire Louvre?
As a landmark?
What the braille trail would have, you know, the whole braille?
Maybe this is some braille.
No, I don’t think there’s braille here.
It is nice that there’s a little outpost here.
Wow.
No braille, just mail.
This is nice.
This is still really nice.
What is that?
It’s a geological path.
Oh.
And I thought this was for something great.
You thought that’s what would be here?
Or that’s what is here?
Or that’s what is there.
There’s like plaques.
But they all have weird geology facts about it.
Oh, where are they?
Oh, one’s over there.
They’re not everywhere.
Okay, let me see the next one.
Let me know when we get to the next one.
I can inspect it.
Oh, so the braille trail is like, they’ve got information about the landscape here in braille.
No, it’s not in braille.
Oh.
I know.
Huh.
What makes you the braille trail?
If there’s no braille.
What’s the problem with it?
It’s an accessible pathway, accessible for all abilities.
It celebrates the Charles River.
Follow the guide cable and know the attractions at each bead and granite pillar along the way.
What bead and granite pillar?
Is that just the name for this type of pillar?
Oh, is there braille in this?
Oh.
Yeah?
Okay, yeah.
This is the braille.
Oh, and then you follow this rope and it takes you to the next one.
And then you have another bead that tells you something.
Yeah, but there’s not a lot of them.
There’s not a lot of them.
There’s no beads.
There’s beads.
There’s beads.
Yeah, it’s still good.
We did find some braille, so that’s good.
If there was no braille at all, that would be kind of shocking.
There’s like a bead here.
Yeah.
There’s no braille on the pillar.
Oh, it’s just a bead.
Yeah, you’re right.
There’s no braille.
I can’t feel anything on here.
There’s no beads.
It just has to, like, I don’t even…
No one cares.
Yeah.
I could write that.
Okay.
Yeah.
A diverse community.
There’s not a person who’s in the elementary group.
What’d you say?
He’s still in Wexford.
It’s a good place to go.
He really wanted to get out, but they were like…
Basically, W&E, they placed all the doctors at Warren House because they wanted to get out.
And he was hoping to actually come back.
I think he will eventually, though.
I don’t think he’ll stay there forever.
But she was kind of like, man, like…
Like, at some point, when she was a kid, I think she ends up in a couple of places.
Like, she ends up with you.
And she’s like, this is really like…
She’s like, we might end up here.
In Massachusetts?
No, in West Virginia.
Like, she’s kind of like, not liking the vibe.
Well, I hope for you as well.
Yeah.
Well, like, Brittany is also like…
It’s interesting.
Brittany’s in this weird kind of like…
Her tenure is kind of on the line right now.
She’s in that period of like…
She’s like, having to prove that she gets tenure.
And I feel like that’s just…
Like, my friends at CSC, they were like, yeah, our professors, like, they’ll literally tell us.
They’ll be like, oh, like, you know, please do a little more in this because, like, I just really want to have a good studio and a good project so that I can keep being there.
And you’re like, well, why is that a factor for you?
But also, like…
It’s also…
Yeah, that’s not…
Like, none of this could be real.
It’s also a little…
Like, I’ll just stay here.
Yeah.
Like…
Yeah.
College project?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was just such a…
I feel like I did do good projects that semester and I did them probably with that…
I had a lot less anxiety about that project.
You know, just kind of like…
Anxiety is a killer of, like…
You know, like, I would go in and, you know, like, John is, like, incredible.
And it was nice to be able to be like, oh, I was nice to him.
I was like…
I just think there was a positive energy with him.
And then I was just like…
And, like, normally I would just let that, like, kick in and be like, oh, John doesn’t like the project.
And then we’d just be like, whatever.
Yeah.
It’s like, oh, I didn’t do it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, like, Brittany is also, like…
It’s interesting.
Brittany’s in the position of, like…
Her tenure is kind of, like, on the line right now.
Or, like, she’s in that period of, like, she’s, like, having to prove that she gets tenure.
And I feel like that’s a…
Like, my friends at CSC, like, they were like, yeah, our professors, like, they’ll literally tell us.
Like, they’ll be like, oh, like, you know, please do a little more in this because, like, I just really want to have, like, a good studio and, like, a good project so that I can, like, keep being here.
And you’re like, well, why is that a factor for me?
Like…
But also, like, yeah, that’s not…
Like, none of this could be real.
There’s also a little, like…
Yeah.
Like…
Yeah.
Yeah.
The one time I did it, I was like, well, you can just, like, Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was, like…
Like, I didn’t have to do it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We used, like, two wheels.
Yeah.
Dr.
Watson.
Dr.
Solomon.
Is it in there or…
Yeah.
He’s a big guy.
He’s in the thing.
Classic sometimes.
Uh-huh.
Oh, definitely.
Like, how he did the alarm bell, like, another thing.
Yeah, I think so.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, he was, like, Yeah. Oh, definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Oh, yeah?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It’s really, like…
Yeah.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. I think that’s also, like… When you’re on the faculty side of the divide, like… I think it’s really easy to…
And I say this as someone who’s done other things and came up on the faculty side, but… I imagine. Because, like… I think some people, like, it’s the most comfortable thing for them. This isn’t personal, but… Is to just sort of, like, complain about the field. And complain about what’s going on.
But you feel like it’s something to be proud of.
And then I feel like those people can really relate to everyone who’s, like… Kind I feel like…
I think that was also the first time I was like…
I really remember feeling like…
Or like, why are we all on a boogie and doing this?
Like, what’s going on?
And I feel like there have been other faculty members who like…
Clearly were responding to something more than what it was.
For example, like the fight or the…
Like the tired one, you know, the Rizzi had died.
Like, really?
Oh yeah?
Yeah, and everyone was like, oh, Doug.
I know!
Yeah.
They were like, oh, he’s teaching architecture school in the last year of his life.
Like…
Everyone’s like, what is he doing this for?
Yeah, the studio is just so…
Again, again, it’s just…
I thought it was like sports talk though.
Or like, like it’s…
I mean…
The studio is done, it’s been a good month.
It was still…
It was still a good month.
I mean, it was just a good month.
Yeah, like simply for them to just be okay.
Like be kind.
Yeah.
No, I think he was pretty private about it.
I don’t know.
I don’t know who he went.
But I know Chris, like…
Like we were all like kind of saying like he was safe.
And heading for like three.
And then we were just talking to him and being like…
Oh, hey Chris, like we’re just walking to class.
And I ran into him in the quad.
It was like the only time I ever spoke to him. And I was like, hey Chris, how was life?
And he was just like, oh, like…
It’s pretty crazy.
He’s like, you know, my wife has been like really sick for the past like six months. And she has like, she’s probably got a flare up of like shingles. So like that’s on top of like she broke her leg and like… And I was like, and then my son’s like having all these like problems in school. But he’s not like, you know, I think he’s just like traumatized. He’s got like all these like attitude problems now. I don’t know how to deal with it. And I was like, literally… I can’t tell you the strange of that boy that I just ran into. Yeah, and I’m also like, he’s like, man, everything’s just so bad. And it’s like, everything just sucks. And I was like, I was like, wow. Also like the fact that he’s telling me like a random person who is asking him how he is at one time. Just any sense so much about like the… That he doesn’t have a lot to really talk to you about it. He went to talk to you. That was intimate. Like, I was like… Was that so intimate? I was like, did you like… Like, obviously there’s like a cloud of anxiety over what was happening there. It was like happening in the studio. And then I was like, you end it. Yeah. Like, great job guys. All right, thanks. And like… I don’t know if I can continue. Yeah. Like, yeah. Like, is he so complimentary on the review day? Oh yeah. Of all of us? Uh-huh. And like… I mean… Like, he was really like… Yeah, he’s happy that I didn’t talk to him. But it makes me really like… Yeah. Believe in him. Uh-huh. And I was like, told you to do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, because I’m like, sure. Like, not good enough. I don’t know. Yeah. Like, I was just like, so… Like, he’s like a little bit… Like, lovely and terrible. Yeah. Totally agree. Like… And also, like, it’s not like… I don’t know. We’re totally just sort of in a work setting. You’re like, yeah. Like, I have all these ideas and we’re trying to think really hard. And it’s like… We’re gonna see if it works out. Like, I hope it does. Like, without going through, like, that… Maybe it’s a good thing that we’re talking to him. I’m not too happy about it. But… Like, I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. Yeah. There’s a lot of wood. Yeah. I heard… I heard that he was like a lot of research. Yeah. Also, yeah. I think he was dealing with some… Yeah. Yeah. I was trying to create, like, a… Like, a wildfire scene. Ecologically, you know? Uh-huh. Because I was, like, down. Wow. And it’s… I trust you, baby. I trust you. Like… I trust you. I trust you. And then… Like, the only other… Yeah. Who I love. So… Right? I think. Which I definitely didn’t want to come to terms with. Uh-huh. So… Also, I… Yeah. Or, like, family plans. Wow. Wow. Oh, really? Well, yeah. I don’t know. Did you ever tell me? Really? Yeah. I didn’t do that. I didn’t do that. I didn’t do that. I didn’t do that. Like, you know? Like, that’s what I was told. And I’m trying to do something else. Just because I don’t want to… Like, I don’t want to… Like, I don’t want to… I didn’t do that. And then things about him, like, the object of it. And then I was like… I don’t know. I don’t know. It was really, like, at the end of it, just thinking about the rest of it, like… Things from other people, like, sort of… Other people thinking about, you know, your subjectivity, your subjectivity, and your subjectivity, like, you know, the other way. And it sort of goes, like… I don’t know. It was really good conversation. Yeah. But, yeah, let’s have a little bit of a discussion. Like, that was one of the things that… Like, I was like… It’s like… It’s like… It’s like a bit of… It’s like a bit of… Yeah. I mean, it’s a healthy… It’s a very good thing. Yeah. Because, yeah, people want to… I don’t know. It’s a… It’s a… Yeah, that’s pretty good. Well, I think it’s important about… Yeah, that’s what I was saying. I think it’s important about… Yeah. Yeah, like… Yeah, we have a… Yeah, we have a… Yeah. But I also thought it was… I think it’s important about… Yeah. Yeah. I think it’s important about… Yeah. Yeah. I think it’s important about… Yeah. I think it’s important about… Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel like it’s important about… Like… Like, I don’t know how to get it. I feel like… I feel like it’s… Like, I feel like it’s… Like, I feel like it’s… I feel like it’s… I feel like it’s… Yeah. But it’s… But it’s… But I also thought it was… Like… I mean… Like, it’s important to you… And it’s important to you… Yeah. It’s important to you… Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. And it’s important to you… Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Where do you want to go? Where do you want to go? I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. Yeah. I don’t know. Okay. It’s a pretty good thing.
Aw, that’s so sweet, it’s been recording.
